Welcome! You’ve reached the Official Site for SF writer Margaret Fortune. Whether you’ve visited my site before or are coming by for the first time, I appreciate your interest in my work.
Ever since I was little, I’ve had a love for all types of speculative fiction, whether it’s science fiction, fantasy, or any sub-genre in between. As a girl, I plastered my walls with posters of unicorns and wizards, castles and dragons; and now that I’m grown-up, I plaster my desktop with images of space stations, planets, and starscapes. Speculative fiction is food for the imagination. It makes us think, makes us dream, makes us open our eyes to all the wondrous things around us. It takes us places we could never go in real life, to the furthest reaches of the universe and beyond, but in the end, always brings us back home, safe and sound.
I’ve written stories for middle grade, young adult, and adult audiences, and my short fiction has been published or is forthcoming in multiple magazines. Nova, the first book in my 5-book science fiction series, was released by DAW Books in June 2015. For more information about the book, please feel free to visit my Books page or check out the Amazon listing.

It’s been a little over a year now since Nova was released in audiobook, eBook, and hardcover. Today it’s finally hitting shelves in paperback! If you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, here are some of the things people are saying about Nova:
“There is much to praise about this novel, including its clever rethinking of an SF standby, the interstellar war, and its carefully drawn characters…There are some very nice plot surprises, too, best left unrevealed here, that should give readers some thrills and chills. A super start to what looks like a fine series; readers will be eager for the next installment.”
–Booklist starred review
“Nova grabbed me from the first chapter, and never let go. What a ride! Unforgettable, fast-paced, and original, this book kept me guessing until the end.”
–Amie Kaufman, New York Times bestselling co-author of These Broken Stars
“This is an excellent debut…The teenage characters are well developed and avoid cliche. As such, though marketed to adult fare, young readers would enjoy Nova too.”
–RT Book Reviews
Nova was also on B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog’s 11 Adult SF Novels to Turn Teens into Genre Die-Hards list and Book Riot’s Riot Round-up: The Best Books We Read In August list. So if you’re looking for a summer read, Nova may be just the book for you!
And for readers out there who have already read Nova and are dying to know what happens next, be sure to check back here, as I’ll be posting some information about the next book in the series in the not-too-distant future!
